Michigan was admitted to the union on January 26, 1837, the 26th state.
It's population is 9.3 million, 8th among the 50 states.
It covers 58,216 square miles, 23rd among the 50 states.
There are 38,575 square miles of Great Lakes water area.
And 3,288 miles of shore line on four of the five Great Lakes.

Mackinac IslandThis is a must on your travels. On Mackinac Island there are no motorized vehicles allowed except for emergency vehicles. You can take a horse drawn taxi, horseback, bike or on foot to explore this tiny island of less then 3 miles wide. The movie "Somewhere in Time", starring Christopher Reeves, was shot on location here at the exquisite Grand Hotel.
